Canister Vacuums - Are they Right for You?
Vacuums have been around since the turn of the last century. Even after an entire century, the principle is the same: a few wheels, a handle, and a motor that sucks up dirt to be placed in a receptacle that can be emptied or discarded. The only major differences have been the basic styles: an upright, or a canister. Here will learn about canister vacuums.
Canisters became popular in the 1950s. Housewives loved the agility and lighter weights. These new models were much easier to carry up and down stairs, and they were the favored choice for anyone who needed to vacuum carpeting on stairs themselves.
The long cords and various attachments that became standard made not only staircases easier to clean, but now heavy draperies, curtains, walls and ceilings could be vacuumed with soft brush attachments and long thin nozzles.
Canisters could go places and do things that the uprights just couldn't. It became easier to clean under heavy furniture rather than moving it. Corners could be cleaned. Any surface - hard wood, rugs, linoleum, and tile could all be vacuumed without worrying about scratches or the need for any type of pampering because attachments were made for any project that came about.
An entire industry popped up for the sole purpose of designing and supplying an attachment for every possible reason. Attachments were made for cleaning the inside of the family car, vacuuming crumbs from inside the refrigerator, and everything in between.
Cleaning the canister vacuum was as easy as it could get. Either a latch or a lever could be moved and the top would release. The bag was then removed and discarded. Later vacuum cleaner bags would come with closing tabs that could be placed over the hole in the bag so that dirt wouldn't escape before ending up in the trash.
Because of the benefits of canister vacuums, they have remained popular even into the 21st century.
Some of the more popular vacuums in this category are the Hoover canister vacuum which is famous for its low cost and efficiency. It is especially good for floors and rugs. On the flip side, it is heavier and is not so good at picking up pet hair.
The Eureka canister vacuum is another very popular choice in this category. Take the Eureka 6500A Air Extreme for example, it is designed to maximize airflow, ensuring powerful vacuuming performance on any floor type and other surfaces like stairs or upholstery. You can also move easily between carpets and bare floors with the push of a button. When you need to wwitc between carpets and bare floors there is no problem when you use the on/off brush roll.
